Full-Time Firefighter Fire Department

Fire Service Firefighter Operator

The class of Firefighter/Operator comprises entrance level positions in the fire suppression division of fire department operations. Employees of this class receive training in and perform firefighting and fire suppression tasks such as controlling and extinguishing fires, performing rescue work, and driving and operating fire department vehicles. Employees of this class are also responsible for the maintenance of fire apparatus, fire department equipment, the fire station, and for completing records as assigned. Employees of this class perform duties under the supervision of and have work reviewed by a Fire Captain. This class reports to and ranks immediately below that of Fire Captain.

  • Administers first aid, CPR, and emergency care to the public.
  • Notifies dispatcher to call for emergency medical help when needed.
  • Calms or comforts emotionally distraught victims, relatives, and spectators at emergency scenes.

Qualification Requirements

Unless otherwise specified, all requirements must be met by the filing deadline for application for admission to the examination.

  • Must meet all requirements of the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Law, including being a citizen of the United States and of legal age.
  • After offer of employment, but before beginning work in this class, must pass a physical examination, the selection and administration of which shall be authorized by the Appointing Authority, designed to demonstrate good health and physical fitness sufficient to perform the essential duties of the position, with or without accommodation.

Summary

This position is responsible for the safety of school children going to and from school at an assigned location. The work involves traffic control, supervising any person in crossing streets or highways ensuring safety.

Part-Time Airport Line Service Tech Airport

Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Airport Manager this position is responsible for assisting with the daily tasks involved in the day-to-day operation of the Airport. Performs a variety of unskilled, skilled, and clerical work as needed for the safe and efficient operation of the airport and the performance of services provided at the airport.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs daily inspections of airport property including: airfield, terminal, and hangars for maintenance, cleaning, or safety discrepancies requiring attention. Resolves any minor discrepancies or potential hazards to aircraft or vehicular traffic as necessary and completes reports documenting those inspections and reports any discrepancies to the Airport Manager.
  • Performs daily inspections of the Airport’s fuel systems and mobile refueling vehicle(s), including checking the fuel levels in the tanks, draining the tank sumps to check for water or other contaminants, check for any other safety concerns or potential discrepancies, completes necessary documentation of findings, and reports any discrepancies to the Airport Manager.
  • Provides into-plane fueling to various types of aircraft utilizing the mobile refuels.
  • Provides excellent customer service to anyone arriving at the airport.
  • Assists with maintenance of airport facilities, equipment, vehicles, and grounds to include: mowing, cleaning, vehicle care and maintenance, etc..
  • Performs general terminal maintenance, including: sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning glass, cleaning bathrooms, making coffee, etc..
  • Assist in keeping accurate records of sales, inventory, aircraft take-off and landings as well as hangar rental and tie-down information.

Full-Time Financial Specialist Administrative Secretary Administration

Summary

This is a responsible clerical position involving work of complexity and variety in the administration of the City Clerk’s office. The primary responsibility of this position is that of coordinating the routine and administrative functions of the department. This includes effective communication with incoming calls and employees, correspondences, reports, and maintenance of files, records, and spreadsheets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage traffic in and out of the Accounting Department.
  • Promptly answers and screens incoming calls, forwarding them to the appropriate employee or taking detailed messages for callbacks.

Full-Time Utility Clerk I Utilities Office

Summary

Clerk I performs general clerical duties to support department operations. Responsibilities include data entry, filing, answering phones, inputting payments from customers and applying to correct utility accounts, and assisting with routine customer service tasks. Work is typically performed under close supervision following established procedures. Full-Time Water Distribution/WWC Laborer Water Crew

Summary

This is a semi-skilled position involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution, sewer collection mains, service lines and related fixtures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in excavations to install new water or sewer lines or to expose a broken or leaking line. Assists in making repairs, backfills all excavations using proper compaction procedures.
  • Assists and is occasionally responsible for cleaning sanitary sewer lines by flushing, rodding, high pressure cleaners, or other methods.
  • Prepares streets following cuts made to repair or install water or sewer lines.
  • Assists in making water taps, raises manholes, replacing valves, installing meters and valve boxes and other appurtenances.
  • Locates mains and valves for contractors and the public.
  • Performs work in other departments as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • None

Supervision Received

  • Works under the supervision of Water Distribution / Wastewater Collection Foreman.

Qualification Requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma or GED preferred; required for promotions.
  • No prior experience required. Some experience in maintenance or construction work desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to deal with employees and/or the public in a courteous, tactful and patient manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and/or in writing.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment used in the construction and pipe fitting trades.
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods of operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Ability to work unsupervised for brief periods of time.

Special Requirements

  • Prompt and regular attendance.
  • Subject to work on a call-in basis in cases of emergency.

  • Ability to work various hours and over time as necessary and must work on a “call out” system, as scheduled.
